Horsepower With the Perfect Fuel Curve. Unlock the Secrets of the Holley Carburetor and Learn from Bo’s Many Years of Experience.
Bo Laws' interest in cars and engines in particular began during his teen years. In the late '50s and early '60s, road racing was very popular and also very exciting because of the special-built racing sports cars such as Jim Halls Chaparrals and the Scarabs driven by Augie Pabst and Dick Rathman. At that time, American made V-8 engines were just making their mark in road racing. He maintained and crewed a Lister Corvette, which was raced on both a Regional and National levels from 1959 until 1961. With an all-volunteer crew, he did everything from building the engines, rear ends, transmissions, steering and brakes. The team achieved exceptional results against really good worldwide competition. It was a wonderful era to become involved in racing.
He owned and operated a general repair shop from 1965 until 1970 specializing in tuning and race prepping Corvettes and muscle cars. From 1970 until 1990, he operated a combination speed and machine shop, specializing in building high performance products and race engines. During this time, he became interested in modifying racing Holley carburetors and also in developing racing engine parts. In 1990, he sold the machine and speed shop and in 1991 started BLP Products.
BLP Products manufactures and furnishes parts for much of the professional race carburetor builders and race teams along with modifying Holley race carburetors, as well as manufacture special components for Holley Carburetors and offered the first billet metering blocks for Holley carburetors. BLP also manufactures other fuel system and engine parts. BLP has a complete machine shop with many CNC machining centers, with a yearly sales volume of approximately 3 million dollars.
Most of his racing career has been on the tuning and crew side, but he actively drove and competed in NHRA competition from 1968 until 1971. Some of his achievements were winning the 1968 Street Eliminator at the Winter Nationals in Pomona, CA and the Street Eliminator at the 1968 Spring Nationals in Englishtown, NJ (the first race at this track); winning 5 of 6 Southeast Divisional races in 1969, and was runner up at the World's Finals in Dallas. He was a member of Holley's "Only The Best Club" in 1969 and 1970, was voted Modified Driver of the Year in the Southeast Division in 1969, and was awarded the Stewart Warner trophy as Car Builder of the Year in the NHRA Southeast Division in 1969. He was voted to the Car Craft Magazine's Awards in 1969 and 1970 as Modified Engine Builder of the year. Mr. Laws was elected to be a member of the very first NHRA Southeast Division Hall of Fame in 1983.
A resident of Orlando, Florida, for 53 years, Mr. Laws has been married to his wife Barbara for 49 years, with four children, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
